InformationWardell "War" BrownWardell "War" Brown is a freelance cartoonist and comic book artist working out of San Diego, California. Known mostly for his neo-retro styled vector cartoons, Wardell’s art demonstrates a wide range of styles and influences.Early LifeWardell began cartooning as a child. Greatly influenced by animators Tex Avery and Chuck Jones Wardell spent most of his formative years cartooning and creating various comic strips and comic books. By the time he was 12 he had created hundreds of cartoon characters, mostly funny cartoon animals. While attending Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia Wardell became heavily involved in art history, which added a new dimension to his art. Also during that time Wardell also studied with cartoonist Bebe Williams of Bobby Ruckers.
CollegeAfter earning a Carl T. Rowan Scholarship, Wardell attended the Rochester Institute of Technology. During this time Wardell was a founding member of the RIT Sequential Art Guild. The Sequential Art Guild was a group of RIT students who produced a comic book called, Tiger Tales. Upon graduating in 1998 with a BFA in Illustration Wardell moved to San Diego California and began a career in freelancing illustration. In 2001 Wardell studied with character designer Charles Zembillas of the Animation Academy of Los Angeles.
SpifficatedIn 1999 Wardell began working on a weekly online comic strip, Spifficated. Spifficated follows an angry young mouse that is committed to an asylum for having radical opinions. The mouse named Miles, finds himself surrounded by patients who are far outside the norm. The longer he stays the more the residents start to make sense. Art of WarIn 2004 Wardell published his first sketchbook called, The Art of War: A Wardell Brown Sketchbook vol.1. In which Wardell displays his artistic skill and love for drawing everything from animal sketches to pin-up lovelies to original character designs. The Nice Guy's Guide to Dating WomenIn 2006 Wardell released, The Nice Guy's Guide to Dating Women. A dating advice book for nice guys set in a graphic novel format. The book was years in the making and follows one nice guy's journey of self discovery to figure out why he is less than successful with women and what he can do to change that. More-->
Grover's Mill TheatreAt San Diego Comic-Con In July 2007 saw the debuted Wardell' comic book Grover's Mill Theatre Issue 01. Grover's Mill Theatre is a collection of stories set in a movie theater format. Each issue will include a cartoon, a serial and a main feature. Previous incarnations of Grover's Mill Theatre includes an ashcan in 2002 and it was one of the first comic book pdfs in the E-Pulp format. More-->
